America
I fly high on beautiful, sunny days
To stand for our country’s independence and foundational ways
When sadly I am needed to be flown half staff
I am fiercely revering a dear citizen who has recently passed
For those who once valiantly served our extraordinary land
I am folded in distinct procedure and placed in the loved one’s hand
The greatest heartbreak, yet honor I have known
Is when I lay draped across the hero, soldier casket - returning home
My role is mighty - my stance is true
I bear the bold stripes of the Red, White and Blue
In the top left corner, my brilliant Stars are encased
I represent the triumphs and the scars our American family has faced
When you see me, when you hold me
Know my story - the reason I came to be
Gaze upon me as I fly grand in the wind, looking to Heaven and toward our God
You’ll find yourself amazed and grateful for the journey you now trod
My desire is to bring unity from incredible sea to shining sea
For we are all human - we are all Americans - these United States are we
I am the American Flag and I humbly fly with pride
It is a privilege to be an American - with love, loyalty and respect for country …I WILL ABIDE!
