Happy Mother's Day

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 NIV

1 There is a time for everything,    and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2 a time to be born and a time to die,    a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3 a time to kill and a time to heal,    a time to tear down and a time to build,

4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,    a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Today is Mother’s Day.  I wish each mom a very happy day and I pray you know how special, appreciated, and loved you are.  

My Scripture for this Special Encouraging Post is not the typical Mother’s Day verse.  Yet, it contains messages that are pertinent to each mother- no matter where you are on your journey.  Solomon, inspired by the Holy Spirit, penned these words in Ecclesiastes, beginning with - “there is a time for everything.”  

Reading the remainder of today’s verses, we see there is a time to be born and die.  There is a time to plant and uproot.  There is a time to kill, heal, tear down, and build.  Our last verse focuses on there is a time to weep and laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.  I recap these to share how each are moments in a mother’s life.  She is born, experiences birth, death, and dies.  She plants into her home- her children- and at times, she has to uproot and start fresh due to seasons.  She knows times to kill- sins, wrong relationships, bad habits. She understands the time to heal- receive healing for herself or speak words of healing to her children.  She knows when to tear down and then to build- again, those seasons of cleansing because of wrong choices in her own life or for her family with wisdom to pursue a solid foundation for her and her family’s future.  A Mother is aware of the value in the moments to weep together, but also how to fill her home with laughter. She has insight in mourning, then in teaching her family to dance …dance in the rain, in the sun, in the wind, in the fire- with the Savior she has shared with them since she knew she was expecting each of them.  

There is a news story today about a well-known Mom.  The difficulties with her family along with the television ministry have been brutally discussed.  The public presentation of the dispute between this mom and her family has brought us to the most saddening moment.  Reports share this Mom passed away a few days ago.  Further, the divisional discourse stated was this mom did not want to see her son knowing she was dying- yet she did see the two other children.   There is no judgement here, only God knows.  I pray for all in this situation.  

I choose to share this for this is my second Mother’s Day without my mom.  You know, no relationship is perfect.  In spite of that, something we did through the years was bring to the table any issue when it came up.  We were not perfect- but we did talk.  One month before she had a ruptured aneurism, we were on a phone call.  We had such a conversation- and it was good.  The night before she had the incident, we had a beautiful visit. I am so thankful that every call ended with an exchange of, “I love you!”  Mom passed away seven days after I heard her say, “I love you, Tammie,” one more time. 

Ecclesiastes 3:6 includes this phrase-

“a time to gather…”

Friend, I want to encourage you.  Let me reiterate- no relationship is perfect.  BUT GOD …He can help us when there is a need for crucial conversations.  He will be with you should you need “a time to gather…”

My prayer for you- precious Mother- is that you understand how important you are first to God.  He created you for such an amazing role as this.  Additionally, I pray if you are in good standing with your children- that you continue in this way.  I pray should you have a need, a heaviness in your heart- to come to the table and talk- that you seek the Lord for His guidance and wisdom.  As you do, my prayer is that you allow the Lord to lead you in this time - a time to gather- and say what needs to be said with your children and your family.  I pray an exchange of those three comforting words occurs between you and those you call your own.  

Enjoy a special celebration of you with those you are able to spend time with on this wonderful Mother’s Day!  Be blessed for you are amazing and cherished by so many in your world.
