Understanding …

Lean not to your own understanding.

Our ways can sometimes lead us to a place of confusion as we are trying to trust the Lord. When we attempt to figure things out on our own, we are left with frustration which can potentially get in the way of what God has for us. It is difficult to wait on God’s timing - especially if delay is involved. Nonetheless, becoming completely self-reliant is not the answer. Without dependence on God, our very compass, we stumble along unfulfilled.

Looking for understanding is normal. We all want to know the “why” when a plan takes an unexpected turn. However, our energies are best served when seeking the Lord. God - who is our Comforter and Guide - will lead us in the way we should go as we call upon Him. Yes, there might be a detour occurring that is difficult to comprehend. Yet, as we walk and talk with Him daily - we will come to know His plan for us. We cannot develop understanding, but we can gain the ability to lean on God and His understanding as we pursue Him.

Absolute surrender is leaning not on your own understanding or capability. Not trying to have it your way, your timing ...no matter the longevity - no matter the person attached to the prayer request - no matter the need. The moment we ask God to help us see our situation the way He does, we relinquish it to Him. Herein, as we wait for our answers - God can prepare us for more than we could have imagined. I can attest He extends His peace that passes all understanding. This peace cannot be found in any other place - only Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Leaning not on our own understanding…it’s not an easy human characteristic. BUT GOD will take our hand and lead us if we will trust everything to Him! The straight path will become clear and understanding is settled. God, in His providence, will make it all possible. Our choice to submit to Him brings us to all we have leaning on Him …and not on our own understanding.

I encourage you, dear Reader, to trust God. He will not fail you ...no matter where you are, no matter what you have experienced - trust Him ...He will not fail you as you lean to Him and His understanding.
